Reconstruction of the overpass down the Adler Bypass is half completed

Half of the works on the reconstruction of the overpass at km 6 of the A-149 Adler - Krasnaya
Polyana federal highway have been completed. Expansion of the bridge structure dimensions
started in November 2024
The overpass is being reconstructed as part of the Adler Bypass project. The road will link
Kudepsta neighbourhood and Vysokoye village. The construction of the new section will bolster
up the tourist potential of this area, reduce travel time to Sochi Airport and Krasnaya Polyana,
ensure the diversion of transit traffic from the Adler's resort area and enhance nature-positive
effect on the coastal area.
At present, the phased transfer of the overpass sections to temporary supports and the
attachment of metal cantilevers to them, whereby the structure dimensions will be augmented,
is in progress. The project's goal is to widen the overpass to two lanes. So far, 24 of the 34
cantilevers have been secured. As soon as by the start of the coming holiday season Sochi
residents and guests will be able to travel across the overpass in both directions. And in future,
the structure will become part of a large interchange at the Eastern Portal of the Adler Bypass.
The installation of the road pavement at the overpass is scheduled to start in Q2 2025 The
designers have already opted for Superpave, a comprehensive asphalt production technology
— an advanced system for composing asphalt concrete mixtures. The technology is intended to
deliver road surfaces that are more crack-proof due to low temperatures, deformation and
fatigue.
The most striking peculiarity of this approach is the prediction of pavement condition (rut depth,
fatigue cracks and low-temperature meshes) in time, factoring in the influence of external
factors in a particular region (temperature, humidity) and the projected traffic intensity.
Therefore, the first step in the mixture design process is to gather information about the
environment and expected loads.
