On the M-4 "Don" in Tula and Lipetsk Oblasts, major works at road structures to be completed by the holiday season

Bridge builders plan to repair 6 road structures at a few sections of the M-4 "Don" in Tula and
Lipetsk Oblasts. The construction and installation works have already commenced in order to
open all lanes for motor traffic in time for the holiday season this year.
Thus, in Lipetsk Oblast, repair and rehab works will be conducted at an overpass located at km
417 and three bridges at km 436, 446, and 457 down the M-4 "Don" highway. In Tula Oblast, a
bridge at km 217 and an overpass at km 262 down the M-4 "Don" are to be refurbished.
Bridge builders will rehab structural layers of the bridge deck and replace damaged expansion
joints. At km 217 of the M-4 "Don", the replacement of span beams is envisaged. Also, a new
waterproofing and the lower and upper layers of the pavement will be installed, horizontal
markings painted. It is scheduled to finish all operations by the end of 2025 The M-4 "Don" is
still one of the most popular freeways in the country. As the traffic intensity soars, the pavement
wears faster, but each section is carefully monitored by road and bridge builders.
To recap, in 2024 in Tula Oblast, preventative and predictive maintenance activities have been
finished at three road structures that play a vital part not only for the region, but also for the
entire federal highway. Professional crews brought the roadway parts of the structures over the
Uperta River at km 246 of the M-4 (Bogoroditsk Bypass) up to the standard condition,
completed the works at the viaduct across a dry valley at km 292 of the M-4 "Don", and at the
bridge across a gully at km 293 (Efremov Bypass).
In Lipetsk Oblast, works have been completed at the bridges across the gullies at km 359 and
km 367 of the M-4 "Don" in 2024 Bridge builders rehabbed structural layers of the bridge deck
and replaced damaged expansion joints. The workers installed the bottom and top layers of the
road pavement and applied surface markings. A bridge across the river Repets at km 434 of the
M-4 relief section (the bridge connects Zadonski with Khlevnoye) was redeveloped as well.
