Since the start of the year, more than 50 raids to detect concealed license plates took place down the M-12 "Vostok"
Regional departments of the State Traffic Police alongside the Russian Highways State Company regularly conduct raids to detect hidden license plates on the M-12 "Vostok". This year, more than 50 such operations have taken place, resulting in the identification of more than 330 violators.
The raids are aimed at identifying users with illegible or deliberately concealed state registration plates (GRP) at the federal toll highway. 113 drivers attempted to hide their license plates, and only 50 of them had car numbers that were dirty or indiscernible. The inspectors also revealed non-compliance with the rules of transportation of children and vehicle tinting, drunk driving and other offenses.
The largest number of violators were apprehended in Nizhny Novgorod and Vladimir Oblasts. In Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, 91 violators of administrative legislation were seized, 30 of them deliberately concealed or altered their license plates, and 9 license plates were found unreadable. In Vladimir Oblast, 95 violators were identified, 11 with smeared license plates and 27 with intentionally hidden ones.
It should be noted that in Vladimir Oblast, the raids are conducted jointly with Rostransnadzor. As part of the raid, officials checked up existing liabilities and in case of failure to pay the toll, provided for in Part 2 of Article 12.21.4 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation, issued a fine. Specialists identified 40 such violations. In order to avoid fines, one can pay for the passage along the Central Ring Road and the M-12 "Vostok" by your license plate number within 5 days or use a transponder when passing.
As part of the raid, motorists were time and again reminded about recent amendments respecting their responsibility for violations under Art. 12.2. of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation. To recap, if earlier, in case of concealment or deliberate modification of their licence plate, a motorist was facing a fine of 5000 rubles or driver's license revocation for a period of 1 to 3 months, now, in case of repeated violation, the term of revocation ranges from 1 to 1.5 years, and the option to get a fine is ruled out. Furthermore, an amendment describing liability for installing special hinged license plate frames on a vehicle has been introduced. The use of such devices is punishable by a non-alternative driver's license revocation for a period of 1 to 1.5 years.
