Based on preliminary operational data for the year 2025, the total number of vehicle trips on all expressways under the Russian Highways State Company exceeded 397 million, a 5% increase from 2024.
The key factor behind the growth was the M-12 "Vostok" that was extended to Yekaterinburg in 2025. In July last year, a new high-speed section Diurtiuli - Achit with a length of 275 km was opened, which runs across the territories of the Republic of Bashkortostan, Perm Krai and Sverdlovsk Oblast. The new road has improved the connectivity of the Urals with the Volga region, cutting down the travel time of passenger cars from Kazan to Yekaterinburg by more than 6 hours, and that of trucks by more than 4 hours. On average, 6.5 thousand vehicles per day traveled along the Diurtiuli – Achit segment, with freight trucks dominating the traffic flow, confirming the route's popularity among logistics and haulage companies.
The average daily traffic intensity along the M-12 "Vostok" expressway from Moscow to Kazan increased by 11% and amounted to 10.9 thousand car trips a day. Meanwhile, at the segments in Moscow Oblast this indicator showed about 34 thousand trips a day, and in August, which was the peak month, it almost reached 47 thousand. The total distance traveled by drivers last year down the M-12 "Vostok" exceeded 3.2 billion km, a 10% increase from the year before. The average route length grew up from 110 km in 2024 to 122 km in 2025.
At the M-4 "Don" and M-11 "Neva", the number of trips remained on average at the past year's rates — over 179 million and around 19 million trips respectively. However, the routes of motorists traveling down these roads have become longer. In 2024, vehicles traveled a total of 11.6 billion km along the M-4 "Don", rising to nearly 12 billion km in 2025. On the M-11 "Neva", road users traveled 3.2 billion km, which is more than 100 million km above the 2024 figures.
The average daily traffic intensity on the M-11 "Neva" segments adjacent to Moscow and St. Petersburg stand at 21-24 thousand car passages. At the M-4 "Don" in Moscow Oblast, motorists made about 52,000 trips a day on average, with 74,000 daily trips recorded in August. Along the Aksai Bypass in Rostov Oblast, drivers made an average of 42.5 thousand daily trips, reaching 61.4 thousand in August.
In 2025, the Central Ring Road (TsKAD) in Moscow Oblast saw around 79 million vehicle trips, with drivers collectively covering over 1.4 billion km. Along the new A-289 Krasnodar – Kerch motorway, motorists made approximately 10 million trips, and the distance they traveled over the year exceeds 416.5 million km.
