Reconstruction of 12.2 kilometers of M-4 Don Highway in Rostov Region is completed a year ahead of schedule
The ceremony of commissioning after reconstruction of 12.2 kilometers of the M-4 Don Highway at the section from the 1,024th to 1,036th kilometers has taken place today.
The ceremony has been attended by Vladimir Gurba, Deputy Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Southern Federal District, Vasily Golubev, Governor of Rostov Region, and Vyacheslav Petushenko, Chairman of the Board of the State Company Avtodor.
Reconstruction and construction on the M-4 Don Highway is carried out as a part of the Comprehensive Plan for Modernization and Expansion of Trunk Transport Infrastructure in Rostov Region. Two artificial 244 meters bridges were built at the section. The highway was expanded up to six lanes, the road was surfaced with asphalt-concrete mixtures, a track across Sovetskaya Street in Grushevskaya cossack village in Aksay Region and 244 meters bridge across the Tuzlov River were built, and electric lighting pillars were installed.
“Due to the epidemiological situation in 2020, traffic to the south through the Rostov Region has become much more intensive. It was more difficult for the builders to work, but they completed the reconstruction a year ahead of schedule”, said Vyacheslav Petushenko. He expects that the traffic flow will increase in the summer of 2021.
The State Company Avtodor is actively engaged in the development of the main road network, including M-4 Highway. The section opened today will become an integral part of the large Rostov-on-Don bypass with a 67 kilometers stretch (from the 1,024th to 1,091st kilometers). It will include the reconstruction of the existing 29 kilometers and the construction of 35.5 kilometers of the road. Works on this project are expected to be completed in 2023.
According to Vasily Golubev, the Governor of the Rostov Region, drivers will enjoy a completely new quality of the road and economy, this will positively affect the road transport and environmental conditions in Rostov-on-Don and other settlements. Vladimir Gurba noted that road users would be able to reach Sochi and Crimea faster. Also, he added that the time of delivery of goods to ports on the Black Sea coast would be significantly reduced.
As part of the first and second stages of the Aksay bypass construction, works on the arrangement of pavement layers, construction of the cross-over and ramps as part of Salsk Ring Road traffic intersection are underway. The total length of the reconstruction section is 17.1 kilometers.
The fifth stage of the project is one of the most difficult in terms of M-4 Highway development in Rostov Region. The section runs through the flood-plains of the rivers of Aksay, Don and Cherkasskaya on 19 out of 35.5 kilometers of the fifth stage of the bypass construction. Many engineering structures are to be built here, and a bridge over the Don River will be one of them.
The fifth stage provides for the special soil stabilization works, which will make the roadway durable and capable of handling heavy loads.
