First Asphalt Appeared on M-12

Road workers laid the first meters of asphalt within M-12 highway project. Head of “Russian Highways” State Company Vyacheslav Petushenko and First Deputy Chairman of Board of the State Company Mars Gazizullin were informed about this during the meetings on the state of preparation of M-12 highway, which were held at the 0–8 stages of works performed from Moscow to Kazan from May 5 to May 6, 2021. Moreover, the participants of the meeting discussed the issues related to construction of bridges at the 4th and 6th stages with Ruslan Baysarov, Chairman of Board of USK MOST JSC.  Farit Hanifov, Minister of Transport and Road Industry of the Republic of Tatarstan, also participated in the meeting on the construction of the 8th stage.

On Wednesday, May 5, the first tons of asphalt were laid on the bypass at the 8th stage of M-12 in Tatarstan. It will not only provide for access of machines to the place of road construction but also a passage of local residents to Grebeni settlement situated on the bank of the Volga river. At the same time, within the 0 stage, road workers laid the first meters of asphalt concrete road near Moscow, at the territory of the 48th kilometer of the future highway where asphalt concrete production facilities are erected.
Almost all along the M-12 road, more than 800 kilometers on the way from Moscow towards Kazan, the territory is being prepared for works actively, and utility lines not subject to Glavgosekspertiza (General Board of State Expert Review) permission are moved.

The contractors are improving temporary camps, building overnight facilities and canteens. Soon asphalt plants will be commissioned, and bypass roads to supply construction materials and machines to the future new highway will be prepared.
Active arrangements, work meetings with contractor organization heads, and prompt solution of important issues allow starting the main works immediately after obtaining the positive opinion of Glavgosexpertiza regarding the projects at each stage.
Meanwhile, road designers carry on a comprehensive preparation of 810 kilometers of the road. New technical solutions will be implemented on some sections. M-12 is a unique facility, with 40 kilometers passing the flood-plain of the Oka and the Sura Rivers demanding a drainage system keeping water off the road pavement.

Three unique bridge structures will be erected on M-12. Dorogi i Mosty JSC will build a bridge over the Volga river at the 8th stage more than 3 kilometers long. USK MOST JSC will construct a cable bridge over the Oka river at the 4th stage and a reinforced bridge over the Sura river at the 6th stage.

Let us remind you that at the 0 and 8th stages, works are conducted by Mosty i Dorogi JSC, at the 1st stage – by Stroytransgaz JSC, at the 2nd stage – by RSK JSC, at the 3rd stage – by VAD JSC, at the 4th and 6th stages – by DSK AVTOBAN JSC, at the 5th stage – by CRCC Rus JSC, and at the 7th stage – by “Russian Highways” State Company.
