The process of slip form casting will reduce the time of the pier tower erection by half

For the first time in the domestic bridge construction engineering, the process of slip form casting was applied for erection of a solid pier tower for the bridge across the Oka river on the future М-12 Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod – Kazan highway.

The process of slip form casting was described during a technical tour directly at the construction site of the bridge across the Oka river (the Vladimir Region) on the М-12 highway arranged by the М-12 engineering office of the "Russian Highways" State Company.

Over 30 representatives of the road construction industry visited the event in order to get acquainted with the continuous concreting process. It is planned to reduce the construction time of a 80-meter pier tower at this facility more than twice compared to the traditional self-climbing formwork process. The process will last about four months and a half instead of nine months.

Both stands for the channel pier tower are constructed synchronously at a speed of 2.2 meters per day. A process division bar is installed between stands of the pier tower in order to avoid deviations during the formwork movement.

The bridge across the Oka river is the only cable-stayed bridge on the М-12 highway under construction. It will connect the Vladimir Region and the Nizhny Novgorod Region near the town of Murom. The structure length will be 1,377.6 meters with the central cable-stayed bridge of 254 meters in length. Over 500 people and 100 equipment units are involved in the bridge construction daily.
