Chinese experience in building highways in difficult mountainous terrain can be used at Russian Highways facilities

Consistent with the agreements reached at the highest level during the meeting between Chairman of the PRC and President of the Russian Federation, Russian Highways State Company has been cooperating with Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture.

In April this year, State Company employees will take road building courses at this Chinese university. The course program was developed by experts from leading PRC research institutes in the road industry, practitioners with years of international experience from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chongqing and Hangzhou.

The training program was inaugurated by Vyacheslav Petushenko, Chairman of the State Company Board, and Ding Shuai, Deputy Dean of the International Development Research Institute of Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture.

"At the moment, there are two series of lectures. There were 50 people in the first cohort; now their number is 150. We made an agreement with Moscow Automobile and Road Construction University, a leading educational institution of our country, to run joint courses for students from China and the Russian Federation," noted Vyacheslav Petushenko.

Lectures attracted great interest from employees of the State Company and its subsidiaries so the number of attendees will be three times higher than last year. Staff of Russian Highways will explore Chinese experience in building highways, including examples of implementing investment and financial models in megaprojects, employing extra-large tunneling shields in mountainous terrain and using innovative materials.

Chinese university officials thanked Russian Highways for active cooperation and an opportunity to exchange road building experience.

During the visit of the State Company delegation to China in March 2023, the Russian and Chinese representatives signed a cooperation agreement, under which the experts of the State Company would be able to partake in an additional professional program.

The document resulted from the intensive, comprehensive cooperation between the State Company and Chinese partners in the development of professional interaction and the exchange of best practices.
