M-4 Don became the main road into the summer

An increasing number of motorists are choosing the M-4 Don highway for their trip to the south. Little wonder the expressway is hailed the "main road into the summer". This is evidenced by the traffic data.

The intensity of traffic down the M-4 in June doubled compared to the winter months. And by 30 percent compared to April.

The demand for the M-4 Don highway by motorists has already increased by an average of 10% compared to 2022. Among other things, this is due to the opening of new high-speed sections on the M-4 Don highway, bypassing Rostov-on-Don and Krasnodar that enable reducing the travel time to the Black Sea by yet another 2 hours. And due to a pre-planned schedule of works on the highway, the road workers succeeded in minimizing the forced restrictions on the expressway and creating comfortable conditions for the travellers, deferring part of the repairs until the second half of September.

This is important as in July and August traffic intensity is expected to increase 3-4 times compared to the winter months. In average, from 18 to 44 thousand trips per day are made along the entire M-4, but on peak days of July-August, about 90 thousand trips per day are recorded at some sections.

The section spanning from the 21st to the 93rd km of the M-4 Don highway in Moscow Region remains the most popular among drivers. In 2022, almost 17 million car passages have been recorded on it. In 2023, there is an increase in this indicator by an average of 7%.
